With over two decades leading the La Costa Canyon High School boys basketball program, Coach Cassaw has built a legacy grounded in development, discipline, and a deep commitment to his players. Since taking over as head coach in 1999, Cassaw has led LCC to more than 480 victories, six league championships, four CIF San Diego Section titles, and a Southern California Regional Championship. His teams are known for their defensive intensity, attention to detail, and a culture centered on accountability, teamwork, and preparation. Above all, Coach Cassaw takes pride in helping student-athletes grow into mature, responsible, and confident young men who carry the lessons of the program far beyond high school.

Anthony Garrett

Coach Garrett brings nearly a decade of high school coaching experience to La Costa Canyon, along with the leadership and competitive discipline built during his collegiate football career. His strong presence, clear communication, and ability to connect with student-athletes make him an impactful addition to the varsity staff. With a multi-sport background and a deep understanding of athletic development, Coach Garrett emphasizes accountability, effort, and team-first decision making. His commitment to helping players grow—both on the floor and as young men—strengthens the overall culture of the Mavericks program and supports the high standards of varsity competition.

Assistant Varsity Coach
Brandon Spears
Varsity
Coach Spears brings more than a decade of coaching experience to La Costa Canyon, along with a long-standing connection to the Mavericks program. A 2007 LCC graduate, he was a member of the school's first CIF championship team and has carried those standards into his coaching career. Since returning to LCC, Coach Spears has led both the Freshman and Junior Varsity levels before joining the varsity staff, where he is known for his attention to detail, commitment to player development, and steady leadership. His understanding of the program's culture and the expectations of high-level high school basketball make him an invaluable part of the coaching team.
